Really a wonderful experience that I will forever hold in my heart! Thank you for the beautiful memories and all of the knowledge and lessons. Harmonie and Alfredo were wonderful volunteers. She was a good worker, interested, and responsible. An asset for the farm. Left by Workawayer Edward for host. I stayed for a week at the Finca at the beginning of March. Mike has a great wealth of knowledge, I opted for an introductory permaculture and herbal medicine course rather than purely volunteering due to the short amount of time I was staying. The course was more heavily waited towards herbal medicine, but we still managed to fit in a good amount … read more of permaculture knowledge too.
There was a good mix of practical and theory, and there was a lot of herb collecting to be done which certainly gave a good opportunity to really get the hang of identification! There was also the opportunity to dry and then make various preparations from the harvested herbs, including balms from local beeswax, poultices and teas. Mike's knowledge and his useful collection of reading material and video collection really gave a great introduction to these broad ranging subjects. It was particularly useful to study only a few herbs in detail which also grow here in the U.

This kept the work load to an achievable level for one week, and also meant that I could easily apply the knowledge at home. The location is stunning, right up in the lush green forested southern hills of Ecuador. The hike up from the road around 45mins depending on your fitness levels , is beautiful and a good indication of how much work has gone into building and maintaining the Finca, basically everything has to come up by foot or by donkey! The volunteer accommodation is functional and has all the basic needs, however it does have the most spectacular views of the whole site; waking up each morning on the veranda to the view of the hills and forest and the sound of intimate nature was unforgettable.
The fulltime staff are also great, with special thanks to Horhay for all the funny stories we managed to tell despite my awful Spanish! So, thanks Mike and Horhay for my stay at the Finca! I wish you all the best of luck with the future developments! Beautiful place! The Finca is a real permaculture farm, the landscape on the Ecuadorean mountains is amazing!

The experience was just 2 weeks long but we really had the opportunity to immerge in nature and permaculture! Left by Workawayer Damla for host. Volunteering here was one of the best things I have done in my life. Last year, I finished my PhD program in engineering and I decided to take a break and learn organic farming all around South America. I have been so lucky to find the Finca. I was there only for a week due to my schedule, but I have learnt a lot about permaculture, medicinal … read more plants, Amazonian cloud forest, meditation and lots more… Most importantly, I have experienced living in a self-sufficient environment, in a wonderful nature with huge bio-diversity.
I have worked on many different projects, learning so much about the soil basics, composting, harvesting, transplanting… Mike is a highly knowledgeable and a very kind person.

He will make sure that you get to experience so many different aspects of the farm, and get the chance to work on different projects while teaching you the theory on the spot. He has a tremendous knowledge and a database on local medicinal plants and a huge library on permaculture, plants, intentional communities, self-sufficient living and so much more… He is also very experienced in meditation, and I have learned a lot from his guidance on meditation. The nature surrounding the area is very beautiful and I got to see so many different birds, bugs and plants.
There is a beautiful waterfall close-by and perfect for a cold shower after a hard day of work! I highly recommend volunteering for the Finca, and guarantee that you will learn a lot! Thanks a lot for all Mike…. Damla was a joy to have as a volunteer. I found her insights and ideas refreshing and useful. She is responsible, helpful, and a conscientious worker. Left by Workawayer Louisa for host. I stayed one week at the Finca and it was an unique experience I will never forget! The location is amazing, you'll have a wonderful view at the mountain's.
